Job Summary

The iPod | iPhone | iPad Accessories Team is seeking a hands-on, product-focused Firmware Manager. In this role, you will lead a team responsible for implementing the embedded code inside of Apple's iOS accessories. The position requires experience with low-level, low-power, bare-metal programming and debugging of 8, 16, and 32-bit cores. You must thrive in a fast-paced, highly cross-functional environment, and be able to lead a team of talented engineers.

Key Qualifications

  • Firmware Engineering experience, at least 5-10 years
  • Engineering Management experience
  • Ability to architect firmware, hardware, and software interactions
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Experience hiring engineers
  • Experience developing and delivering embedded C code to volume production
  • Design practices for portable, reusable code
  • Strong understanding of electrical hardware design
  • Experience creating, documenting, and implementing communication protocols
  • Experience with low-power wireless protocols (Bluetooth, proprietary, etc.)

Description

As an Accessories Firmware manager you will be responsible for leading a team that creates and maintains firmware running on a broad array of Apple's iOS Accessories as well as working to enable the third party ecosystem through protocol definition, reference designs, and test tools. The team has responsibilities spanning all aspects of product development from initial product concept and feature definition through implementation and in to high volume production. The team is also responsible for prototyping new product and feature concepts which requires vision/ownership of future roadmaps. The Accessories Firmware team must collaborate on a daily basis with both Hardware and Software teams. The manager must lead product architecture discussions and decisions cross-functionally, always striving to ensure an unparalleled user experience. The Firmware Team must collaborate closely with various QA organizations and iOS Software teams to ensure proper product functionality.

Education

* BS CS/EE/CE or relevant work experience (MS is a plus)
