POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The AmeriCorps Economic Empowerment and Adult Education Coordinator is a new position in the New Jersey office. The coordinator will play a critical role in improving client access to educational opportunities that promote economic empowerment and self-advancement. Early and ongoing learning opportunities support refugees and other humanitarian entrants on their journey from surviving to thriving in the US. The coordinator will organize scheduling and logistics for approximately 300 refugees, asylees and other humanitarian entrants annually. The coordinator will enroll, assess and track client attendance, participation and retention in job readiness, ESL, financial literacy and cultural orientation classes. Additionally, the coordinator will work closely with interns and community partners to plan and implement programming.

RESPONSIBILITIES may include, but are not limited to:
- Organize daily, weekly and monthly adult education schedule, including ESOL, financial literacy, job readiness and cultural orientation classes.
- Develop and facilitate job readiness classes and community field trips to increase client understanding of US workforce practices, including job search, application and interviewing.
- Enroll and track retention of newly arrived refugees and other humanitarian entrants in morning and evening ESOL classes.
- Supervise interns instructing weekly cultural orientation classes to newly arrived clients.
- Enter student attendance and case notes daily in ETO and other databases and follow up with non-attending students
- Communicate student attendance, progress and issues/concerns with caseworkers, employment specialist and other IRC staff.
- Facilitate biweekly meetings between employment, case management and education staff to reinforce Matching Grant program compliance.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development activities and provide general office support.
- Bachelor's degree required, TESOL certificate and/or experience preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish required; additional language(s) preferred
- At least one year experience working with immigrants or refugees, preferably in an adult education setting
- Self- starter with excellent problem solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.
- Exceptional organizational skills with proven attention to detail.
- Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
- Proven ability to contribute both independently and as a key team member.
- Flexibility and comfort in a fast paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
