Job Summary

A successful candidate will have 5+ years experience of enterprise level UNIX system administration/engineering. Data center environment consists of MacOS X, IBM/AIX and Oracle/Solaris systems. This position is focused primarily on IBM/AIX server support with a second focus on Oracle/Solaris servers. You should also understand SAN, RAID and file system technology (IBM, SUN, Xserve RAID's, etc.).

Key Qualifications

  • Analytical skills are required. Position is rotated through on-call duties 24x7 with other members of the System Engineering group. There is occasional travel. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds is recommended but not required.
  • One of the major requirements of this position will be to interact with multiple project teams across all disciplines (i.e., networking, database administration, application development and support teams, vendor support).
  • Additional skills preferred but not required include scripting in an administrative language such as perl, any shell, or 'C' programming.

Description

Candidate needs to be proficient with the administration, installation, configuration, troubleshooting and writing of support documentation of IBM/AIX and Oracle/Solaris HW technology. Experience with AIX HACMP is required. IBM/Solaris duties include recommending specific HW configurations based upon project requirements, working with 2nd level support on resolving HW issues, and evaluation of new HW models. AIX/Solaris duties include performance troubleshooting and recommendations, standardizing of system configuration files, and evaluation and installation of new patch releases. Storage duties include determining configurations for performance or availability, recommendations on different RAID levels, and working with others to deploy on IBM/AIX and Oracle/Solaris. The position interacts with R&D groups through formal channels and through regular meetings. Driving enhancement requests and problem resolution are key elements of this position. Job duties include standard administration (e.g., account creation, system audits, 3rd level troubleshooting) and engineering duties (e.g., patch installation, OS upgrades and installs, mentoring less senior level SE's). Candidate should be able to demonstrate knowledge of standard system startup/shutdown mechanics, NIS, installation of standard tools (Apache, gnu, AIX/Solaris OS related) and other UNIX utilities.

Education

B.S. degree in computer engineering or related degree preferred but not required.
