Job Summary:
 
The Strategic Analyst is responsible for the execution of strategic knowledge initiatives for specific priority stakeholders and communities. This role requires the ability to combine strong analytical skills with deep industry or specialist knowledge and a real-world perspective to bring insights to the client-facing practitioners.
 
The Strategic Analyst is active in leading, managing and contributing to analysis projects, including the design and delivery of products and services in response to customer needs. This includes using a range of analytic approaches to provide analytic insights regarding a sector, account(s), service line or stakeholder group.  In addition, the analyst will use internal and external specialty tools and databases to support strategic decisions.
 
Working in conjunction with the leadership and other business functions (e.g., operations, business development), the Strategic Analyst also contributes to the creation of white papers and thought leadership to differentiate Ernst & Young in the marketplace. The role collaborates with a virtual team of colleagues across the global knowledge community to serve the designated executive or stakeholder group.
 
 
Essential Functions of the Job:
 
Analysis
  • Influences and contributes to stakeholder or community results within direct areas of responsibility.
  • Leads strategic and complex initiatives that support objectives of assigned executive and stakeholder group; providing a big-picture perspective.
  • Possesses a deep knowledge and understanding of stakeholders and communities (sector, service line, etc.) and works in conjunction with the leadership to prepare insightful analyses on trends, as well as the implications of those trends for Ernst & Young or the client.
  • Collaborates with coordinating partners and account teams to bring insight and perspective to priority engagements and builds strong relationships within priority accounts of the community.
  • Works independently or collaboratively to produce insightful qualitative and/or quantitative analysis to fulfil both structured and unstructured requests to support the executive leadership or stakeholder groups; includes the creation or the management of thought leadership, newsletters, internal briefings, early warning alerts and other deliverables.
  • Possesses a deep understanding of the industry/community. Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of analytical tools and techniques, including those specific to the community, and deftly adapts those tools to address analytical issues
  • Breaks down events into causes and key drivers. Demonstrates the ability to develop multiple hypotheses regarding alternative conclusions; investigate the alternatives and to recommend solutions.
  • Draws together information from primary and secondary sources to prove or disprove hypotheses.
  • Transforms ideas into insights and outlines possible outcomes or implications. Demonstrates the ability to use “what if” approaches to determine impact of changes on all areas of a client’s business or logical next steps if status quo continues
  • Possesses the ability to collect information from individuals using direct interviewing and elicitation techniques. Is able to adapt the approach, collection techniques and questions during interview to address key topics.
 
 
Communication
  • Demonstrates good use of structured thinking in analytics. Articulates points of view clearly and coherently.
  • Presents information visually in a compelling manner, supplementing text and narrative.
  • Written and spoken presentation is sophisticated and tailored to the audience.
 
 
Analytical/Decision Making Responsibilities:

  • Skilled in identifying trends that translate into key market-facing initiatives
  • Demonstrates ability to use both qualitative and quantitative methodologies including financial analysis skills

Supervision Responsibilities:
  • Leads multidisciplinary teams, often working virtually across service lines and geographies
  • Able to work with limited supervision; works well under pressure
  • Reviews the work of colleagues and mentors their skill development
  • May serve as counselor or manager for other analysts and specialists
  

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g., Economics, Finance, Business, Statistics, Journalism, Law) or equivalent work experience
  • Master’s degree or postgraduate qualification an advantage
 
Experience:
  • Minimum 8 years experience in a corporate environment
  • Knowledge and experience within a professional services environment an advantage
 
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
  • Succinct and structured oral and written communications skills
  • Confident presentation skills
  • Deep knowledge of the specific community (sector, industry or service line )
  • Proven ability working at a senior level in a fast-moving, client-driven environment
  • Comfortable working in a virtual team environment
  • Confident to build a network of internal and external contacts to help shape point of view
  • Takes ownership for delivering customised projects with a high degree of autonomy
  • Manages multiple, highly-complex projects simultaneously
  • Advanced skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
 
Other Requirements:
  • May require occasional travel
  • Proficient in English, both written and verbal
