The US tax accounting control
framework, which includes recording and reconciling tax entries in the
General Ledger; and the US income tax compliance

Macquarie's business is structured into six operating groups and four support groups. The Financial Management Group (FMG) provides financial, tax and treasury services to all areas of Macquarie.
The key responsibilities in this role will be:
Tax Return Compliance
- Supervise the preparation of corporate federal and state income and franchise tax returns (annual, quarterly, extensions) prepared by the support team in India
- Prepare complex entity corporate income and franchise tax returns (annual, quarterly, extensions)
- Prepare quarterly US tax installment calculations
- Monitor and track upcoming tax compliance obligations on tax calendar system
- Assist in the administration and ongoing refinement to tax compliance software (Thompson Onesource)
- Liaise with the Tax Legal team on, and supervise the preparation of, returns dealing with international transactions – Forms 1120 F (US income tax return of foreign corporation), 5471 (Non-US subsidiary, eg, CFC return), 5472 (Informational return for Non-US affiliates inbound and outbound payments) and 1042 (Withholding tax return)
- Perform research on tax technical issues, such as combined/consolidated filing positions, reporting federal changes
- Assist with federal and state audits
- Respond to correspondence and notices from states and cities
Tax Accounting
- Review monthly income tax provision calculations and postings for assigned US entities prepared by the support team in India.
- Review monthly reconciliations of tax related general ledger accounts prepared by the support team in India.
- Assist in the preparation of US tax forecasts
- Assist in addressing requests from Sydney head office, including (but not limited to) the preparation of quarterly US tax balance sheet sign-off; foreign currency hedging analysis for tax balance sheet positions; forecasting and net operating loss analysis; reporting deliverables for consolidated group reporting; and providing responses for Australian Tax Office audit requests.
Client contact
- External: Work with tax advisors (e.g., tax return providers) and service providers (e.g. Onesource).
- Internal: Work with team members in the Americas and India regions, and liaise with global tax team on global issues. The role will also require extensive contact with the US Finance teams and Tax Legal team.
Experience needed to be successful in this role:
- Candidate should have 4 - 5 years of experience in an accounting firm or Fortune 500 tax department. Financial services & investment banking experience is a plus, but not required.
- CPA required and MS Tax a plus
- Should be familiar with consolidated returns tax issues and FAS 109 – accounting for income taxes
- US domestic experience, with offshore interaction a plus
- Excellent numerical, verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable dealing with internal controllers and accountants
- CPA required / MS Tax is a plus, but not required
- Able to work in a team environment
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks
- Limited staff supervision. Candidate will have supervision over work product from the support team in India.
