Description

 
 
As an Assistant Teacher for the Daycare Center, you will assist with implementing program activities as part of a teaching team, and providing help to other teachers in all areas of the classroom program.
 
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting the classroom staff in routine duties of caring for and teaching children to include maintaining visual supervision of children, changing diapers, preparing food, washing dishes, and feeding children, as necessary.
  • Assisting in classroom management, implementation of the developmental curriculum, record keeping and playground supervision.
  • Cleaning up and organizing work and play areas. Keeping the classroom well organized and arranged appropriately.
  • Maintaining good communication with parents.
  • Working with the classroom staff in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for children.
  • Adhering to requirements of the North Carolina State childcare Law and to accreditation standards of the American Montessori Society (AMS).
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
 Age Group: Assigned in infant, young toddler and older toddler classrooms when teachers are on vacation or out sick.
 
PLEASE NOTE:  This is on-call position and will not have regular hours.
Hours:  Range from 8:00-5:30

Qualifications

 
 
Essential
  • High School or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • 1 year of experience in a licensed child daycare center, and/or a structured teaching or care-giving environment with infants and toddlers.
 Additional
  • Knowledge of proper ways to care for a child of various stages of child development, and of age-appropriate activities.
  • Good communication skills in teaching young children and communicating with parents, visitors, and child care staff.
  • Good written communication skills in all documentation.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift, move, or hold children with weight up to 60 pounds, depending on area of assignment.
  • Must be able to observe children from various distances.
  • Must be able to lift children from various heights.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach with hands and arms and use hands to finger, handle or feel.
 Preferences
  • Bachelor's degree in Child Development or closely related field.
  • Montessori experience
