Job Summary
Apple's
Internet Services Group is an exciting, fast paced, ever growing and
changing environment supporting millions of customers. The Internet
Services Group is responsible for installation, configuration,
troubleshooting and maintenance of all applications and infrastructure
systems related to Apple’s Internet facing applications.
We are seeking an experienced Senior UNIX Systems Engineer, that is
looking for a challenge in a cutting edge fast paced environment to join
our growing team in Maiden, North Carolina. Your role will be onsite
support of thousands of application servers, load balancers and storage
subsystems. You will handle escalation tickets, work directly with
project team and give recommendations. This is a senior position, thus
we are looking for individuals that have experience with large Internet
facing application environments. You must have strong scripting skills
with Perl, shell or Ruby. You must be good at getting things done and
take pride in your work.
Key Qualifications
- - Minimum 5+ years in UNIX systems administration in a large environment (500+ servers).
- - Background in Linux, OS X/BSD, Solaris, and networking
- - Familiarity with the following: Apache, java, tomcat, postfix, Python, Perl, Ruby, dtrace, tcp analysis tools
- - Familiarity with version control systems such as CVS or Subversion
- - Jumpstart, Kickstart, DHCP, NetBoot / NetRestore (OS X), DNS
- - Good communication skills both written and verbal
- - Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities:
- Provide second-tier on call support for all local services. Identify,
troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly and effectively, sometimes under
pressure.
- Participate in the 24x7 pager rotation for thousands of systems
supporting millions of customers in an Internet facing environments.
- Evaluate or develop tools / scripts to facilitate improvement and to
support ongoing maintenance of a growing environment.
- Define and write clear and succinct technical documentation related to
systems and applications as necessary.
- Install and setup systems as required to support growth and new
projects.
- Work well in a team environment and be able to work with and feedback
accurate technical information to developers to identify and resolve
complex issues.
- Provide recommendations and implement solutions for scalability and
performance improvement.
Education
Technical BS/MS degree or equivalent work experience
