Title : Sr. Platform Software Engineer

NetApp is looking for a senior kernel developer with a strong systems background, a drive to innovate, and the proven ability to deliver products to market. We're developing a next generation SW architecture to support new HW platforms and provide the infrastructure for highly innovative systems applications. The majority of this work is in the FreeBSD kernel although the work is broad in scope and will encompass many areas of system design.

This is a senior level role that includes participation in the definition of future system architectures and designs as well as the responsibility for development and testing of kernel software. The candidate is expected to provide technical leadership by setting the standard for quality in software design and implementation, work closely with other senior engineering staff, and mentoring and reviewing the work of others.

As a senior platform software engineer, a major responsibility of this position will be to participate in all phases of the product development cycle from product definition, strategy and design, through implementation. This includes developing key specifications, interacting with internal and external design partners, assessing task requirements and participating in system level bringup and debug.
Requirements:
The individual should have an proven ability in kernel level software and computer architecture, and be adept at low-level kernel software development spanning HW and SW interfaces.

- Experience in operating systems internals, computer architecture, and machine/assembly language.
-In-depth knowledge and low-level experience using hypervisor technologies e.g. VT-x, virtio, bhyve, KVM, Xen
- Development experience with an open-source Unix-based OS, preferably FreeBSD or Linux
- Must be expert in C programming and have familiarity with x86 based architectures
- Can work collaboratively with other engineers and has ability to influence and/or lead
- Previous experience in a technical leadership role on a successful project is highly desired.
- Ability to develop or assist in long-range project plans and schedules to complete complex projects or new product development.
- Good communication skills and a strong desire to ship a product.

- To be successful, this individual must demonstrate favorable results through leadership and influence, as well as work effectively with senior staff across functions and external parties.
Education and Experience:
- A minimum of 8-12+ years of experience is required.
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, a Master Degree, or a PhD; or equivalent experience is required.
- Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, complex technical projects.
