Rockford, IL area- Reporting to the HR Manager for McOpCo (McDonald's Company Owned Restaurants), the HR Consultant will provide HR leadership and thought partnership to a market Operations Manager; as a member of the Operations Manager’s leadership team, will provide HR support to approximately 25-40 McOpCo restaurants. Collaborates with Operations Manager to shape the McOpCo business strategy, orchestrating and implementing key people initiatives across market, profit center, and restaurants. Builds capability of line management to manage and execute people systems (e.g., performance management, staff development, employee relations, B&C).  Plays a lead role in employee relations and protecting the brand.
Key Customers include the Operations Managers, Area Supervisors, and restaurant general managers.

Execution of Key People Initiatives

  •  Educates and influences Operations (i.e., Operations Managers, Supervisors, Restaurant Managers, etc.) in assigned McOpCo markets on People initiatives and resources to ensure alignment with people strategies, applicable employment laws, and to optimize results.
  • Analyze measurement trends of key People systems and make recommendations to effectively execute tools to optimize decision making and people practices at a market level. Proactively provides relevant and timely information to key customers (e.g., measurement, commitment survey, rewards and recognition).
  • With Regional, Divisional and National HR, ensures effective implementation of key people initiatives, share best practices and results, proactively identify emerging business issues, and collaborate on developing solutions.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on people tools and practices.
Talent Management and Diversity/Inclusion   Provides Operations with coaching and support to effectively manage performance: respectful workplace environment, discipline, corrective action, performance improvement, and development planning.


  • Leads in fostering a culture where talent is identified and developed for the System. Day-to-day advocate and coach for sound talent and diversity/inclusion practices.
  • Provides Operations with coaching and support to effectively manage performance: respectful workplace environment, discipline, corrective action, performance improvement, and development planning.
  • Leads talent and performance management discussions with Operations Manager and Supervisors for restaurant management and McOpCo staff
  • Acts as an advocate, including acting as a coach, to Operations Manager and Supervisors to ensure participation and effectiveness of diversity/inclusion initiatives. Facilitates Business Networks and inclusion and diversity/inclusion education. Ensures effective recruitment, development, and retention to maintain and enhance restaurant and management diversity/inclusion.

    Brand Promotion/Protection and Employee Relations
  Proactively anticipates impact of internal and external forces (national and local legislation, organized labor, workforce trends, etc.) on McOpCo business; educates and influences Operations to optimize positive employee relations and protect the brand. Prevents and mitigates risk of media involvement.
  Monitors status of critical employee relations issues ( performance, discipline, treatment, etc.) within market keeping HR Manager informed of needs and trends. Diagnoses problems and implements solutions; facilitates resolution as directed by HR Manager.
  Ensures compliance of all labor laws, government regulations, and legislation; auditing, educating, and taking action as needed. 
  Gathers, prepares and present to Labor Legal, and external attorneys to resolve ER, EEO & Wage & Hour issues utilizing investigations to make sound business decisions.
  Gathers, synthesizes, and prepares critical information for Operations Manager and HR Manager in responding to HR-related crisis situations (e.g., third-party interventions, health and safety issues, and wage and hour audits).

HR Services, Systems, and Processes
  Executes the annual Performance Development cycle with McOpCo staff and restaurant managers by providing education, coaching, and mentoring.
  Leads the McOpCo restaurant Commitment Survey process. Manages communication, facilitates feedback and action planning, and orchestrates line–management ownership.
  Provides guidance and coaching to Operations in effective implementation of Performance Development and annual Salary, TIP, Award & LTI process.
  Manages recognition programs with McOpCo staff and restaurants
  Manages new hire orientation and ongoing education and promotion of restaurant and staff employee benefits.

  • 4-6 years of progressive Human Resources experience
  • Experience in restaurant or hospitality/retail industry especially with multi-units
  • College degree
  • PHR Certified Preferred
  • Willing to Travel
  • Ability to work independently and with little supervision
