Key Qualifications

  • A successful candidate will have 7+ years experience of enterprise-level UNIX system administration/engineering, with significant and recent experience on Linux platforms.
  • We require solid communications and interpersonal skills, as you will frequently work with other technical and non-technical organizations as a representative of our organization. You will document your work as you go along, in a way that it is understandable by other systems engineers. Your task management skills should impress us.

Description

Though this position is focused primarily on Red Hat Linux and Oracle Linux, you should also understand SAN, RAID, file system, and IP networking technology. Our data center environment consists of Linux, Mac OS X, IBM/AIX, and Sun/Solaris systems.   Your day-to-day includes standard administration (e.g., account creation, system audits, third-level troubleshooting) and engineering duties (e.g., patch installation, OS upgrades and installs, mentoring peers). There is heavy project-related work toward bringing new solutions to production support. You will interact with multiple project teams across all disciplines (i.e., networking, database administration, application development and support teams, vendor support). We have an excellent team of offshore engineers for first- and second-level escalations, and there is required participation in the on-call rotation for second- and third-level support (approximately one week per quarter).

Education

You should demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency in: - administering, installing, configuring, troubleshooting and writing support documentation for Linux on x86-based hardware - system startup/shutdown mechanics - kickstart - package management (installation and building RPMs), - modifying and rebuilding the Linux kernel, e.g., adding support for new hardware to kickstart boot disks - scripting in an administrative language such as Perl, any shell, or 'C' programming - configuration of common applications such as Apache HTTPD, PHP, MySQL - diagnosing and identifying performance bottlenecks - significant experience in at least one of the following virtualization technologies: VMware, KVM, Xen - grid computing
