The Position


Disease Area Director,Immunology & Ophthalmology, Global Product Strategy (GPS)

Reports To:  Senior Director, Disease Area Strategy, Immunology& Ophthalmology, GPS

The Disease Area Director has four key responsibilities:
·     providing global strategic guidance and businessexpertise to Research and Early Development (RED) teams within Pharma and/orGenentech Research and Early Development (pRED and gRED)
·     leading the Integrated Development andCommercialization Planning (IDCP) subteam of the RED teams, and representingAffiliate inputs into LifeCycle Investment and Phase 3 Go decisions;
·     leading or actively contributing to thedevelopment of Disease Area and Portfolio Strategies in Immunology &Ophthalmology; and
·     providing global strategic guidance and businessrecommendations on in-licensing and out-licensing opportunities to PharmaPartnering and/or Genentech Partnering.

The Director will be expected to:
·     prepare and review disease opportunityassessments with R&D and GPS leadership, to inform research and earlydevelopment portfolio go/no-go decisions
·     provide global strategic guidance and businessinputs into the development of Target Product Profiles and Clinical DevelopmentPlans for pipeline molecules
·     lead the development of global business casesand revenue forecasts, as well as commercial strategies for pipeline moleculesuntil the LifeCycle Investment Point
·     act as the interim International Business Leaderfor a pipeline molecule following the LifeCycle Investment Point until thePhase 3 Go decision if an IBL has not been assigned
·     gather input from and provide strategicinformation to business partners within Affiliate organizations, including theUS, EU and emerging markets, to inform the development of global product plansfor pipeline molecules
·     work collaboratively with multiple global andAffiliate functional and project team leaders, to ensure molecule plans andDisease Strategies reflect business priorities, and be responsible forexecuting appropriate activities in collaboration with functional partners toensure that goals are achieved
·     make  significantcontributions to Immunology & Ophthalmology pipeline strategy, overseemultiple pipeline products , and consistently demonstrate the ability tointegrate functional expertise with business knowledge to propose solutions incomplex cross-functional teams
·     represent GPS in assessment of externalopportunities, provide business input and strategic guidance to PharmaPartnering and gRED Partnering
·     leverage knowledge of development process andmarket needs to create innovative strategies for future success in the globalmarket
·     effectively negotiate with peers to achievegoals across multiple products and diseases.

Incumbents in the Director, as all other employees, arefully accountable for compliance with all laws, regulations and policies thatgovern the conduct of Roche and Genentech activities. As an individualcontributor, he/she is not only accountable for his/her own compliance, but isexpected to be a role model for others by demonstrating full knowledge andcommitment to all applicable policies.  TheDirector is expected to monitor adherence to company policies and guidelinesand act according to established procedures to ensure all issues are addressedand resolved as required

Who You Are


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
·     Bachelors Degree (Business, or Sciencediscipline is a plus)
·     MBA or other related graduate-level degree ispreferred (Master’s or Doctoral degree in a life sciences field is a plus)
·     8 years or more previous experience inmarketing, market planning, drug development, business development, or pipelinestrategy in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry
·     Previous people management experience isrequired
·     Previous experience in leading the developmentand implementation of product development or commercial strategy
·     Demonstrated understanding of therapeutic areais preferred
·     Demonstrated ability to lead development andexecution of complex plans across multiple priorities
·     Demonstrated ability to manage conflicts andambiguity to drive clarity and deliver results
·     Past experience with and knowledge of the drugdevelopment process (pre-clinical and Phase I–III)
·     Demonstrated knowledge of scientificcommunication development and execution is preferred
·     Proven track record for consistently meeting orexceeding financial and/or other quantitative targets as well as qualitativegoals
·     Business travel, by air or car, is required forregular internal and external business meetings
